On March 15, tens of thousands of youth in at least two dozen countries and nearly 30 U.S. states will walk out of school to strike institutions, nation-states, and large corporations that refuse to take accountability and action for their contribution to climate change. The #YouthClimateStrike is gaining momentum across the world and we need to be a part of it.
We have only 11 years to change the worst effects of climate change (UN IPCC Report). As people of the world and as part of the Northwestern community, we have the responsibility to face the climate crisis and drastically change our behaviors to save our world.
We ask that you leave class, work, meetings, and any other commitments to join us to push the university and world into a greener future. There is more we need to do and that starts now.
The demands of US Youth Climate Strike are:
1. We demand a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in line with the October 2018 IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
2. We demand our world leaders take action that ensures global warming remains under 1.5 degrees Celsius.
3. We demand that our US legislators implement the Green New Deal and other legislative actions that decrease the climate
