Human Rights Day is observed every year on the 10th of December. It began when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.
This year, Human Rights Day marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This declaration is unknown to most of us. It was signed long ago in a placed thats far away from our daily lives. But it affects the engagements that we have on a daily basis. This document that proclaimed the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being -- regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. It is for this reason that it has become the most translated document in the world, available in more than 500 languages.
