Look at any major news outlet in 2019 and migration is dominating headlines. While their are many political views that surrounding migration, on this day we choose to look at the issue with compassionate eyes.
Throughout human history and at its root, migration is the expression of individual's will to overcome adversity and to live a better life. Today with advances in communications and transportation, the number of people who have the desire and the capacity to move to other places has greatly increased.
This new era has created not only challenges but also opportunities for societies throughout the world. It has served to show the clear linkage between migration and development, as well as the opportunities it provides for co-development. With the roots of migration mixed with elements of unforeseeability, emergency, and complexity, the challenges and difficulties of international migration require enhanced cooperation and collective action among countries and regions. The United Nations is playing its role, with the aim of creating more dialogues and interactions within countries and regions, as well as propelling experience exchange and collaboration opportunities.
