International Volunteer Day

#HeartBeatsHate

Volunteers are the backbone of our society. In a world filled with camera phones and social recognition, the act of what it means to be a volunteer is being lost.

International Volunteer Day was mandated by the UN General Assembly, and is held each year on the 5th of December. It is a chance for "volunteers and organizations to celebrate their efforts, to share their values, and to promote their work among their communities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), United Nations agencies, government authorities and the private sector (UN, 2019)."

Apart from organizing thousands of volunteers every year, the United Nations Volunteers program contributes to peace and development by advocating for the recognition of volunteers and working with partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming.

A day to recognize the amazing work that volunteers do in your community! Join us and contribute to the conversation by celebrating International Volunteer Day.
